The Defence environment is defined by its complexity, scale, and constant state of readiness. The Australian Defence Force and Defence Industry must ensure personnel are trained to the highest standards while adapting quickly to evolving operational requirements, new technologies, and global security challenges. Training solutions must be robust, flexible, and compliant with frameworks such as ASDEFCON and the Systems Approach to Defence Learning (SADL), while also integrating seamlessly across joint domains—land, sea, air, space, and cyber. The challenge lies in delivering capability development that is secure, cost-effective, and able to balance traditional instructional design with innovative technologies such as simulations, part-task trainers, and integrated learning environments. MMCLD understands these demands and has the expertise to design, deliver, and sustain training systems that directly enhance Defence capability and readiness.

The Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) program required the design and delivery of training for one of the most advanced naval platforms introduced into the Royal Australian Navy. MMCLD was engaged by the prime contractors to lead the design and development of digital learning for operators, maintainers, and safety personnel, while also supporting the platform team with specialist online training. Over the course of this 10-year program, MMCLD delivered more than 300 hours of online training and reference material, including four feature-quality films showcasing the ship’s capability prior to construction, a part-task trainer for the towed array system, and a complete digital twin of the vessel with full digital connectivity. This end-to-end training solution provided immersive, scalable, and accessible learning resources for Navy personnel, significantly enhancing operator preparedness and platform familiarity before the vessels entered service. The success of the AWD training program not only demonstrated MMCLD’s ability to deliver complex Defence projects but also positioned us as a leader in the application of digital learning design for major acquisition programs.
